Bokamoso South continue brilliant run, win Sprite Memorial Independence Tournament

It was a memorable Sprite Memorial Independence Tournament
Bokamoso South continued their incredible start to the 2016/17 basketball season by winning the 2016 Sprite Memorial Independence Tournament this weekend at Lehakoe Club.

The new kids on the block were in stunning form once again as they won all four of their games to capture the men’s tournament ahead of national league champions, KTA All Stars.

Bokamoso South made a brilliant start to their Memorial Independence Tournament campaign by beating favourites KTA 50-46 in a hotly contested encounter on Saturday.

They didn’t look back and defeated Leseli 50-30, Bashana Baheso 52-42 and Khubestate 42-27 to top the final standings of the round robin tournament. KTA finished second with their only defeat in four outings coming at the hands of winners Bokamoso South.

Bokamoso South had many stand out performers but it was Nako Mofube who won the competition’s MVP award.

The top two in the women’s section was also the same. However, this time around KTA All Stars finished ahead of Bokamoso South with Nthabeleng Mohale from Tigers named as the competition’s MVP.

Bokamoso South have also made a blistering start to the National Basketball League (NBL) season and are top of the standings with five wins from five games. The league continues on Tuesday.

To the Vodacom Premier League and LMPS are the new leaders of the league after the weekend’s action. LMPS beat Rovers 2-0 on Saturday to provisionally go to top of the league. And when Kick4Life lost to Sky Battalion on Sunday, Semunye’s place as top dogs for at least a week was confirmed.

Elsewhere in the weekend’s action, champions Lioli made it two wins from two games with a 2-0 triumph over Liphakoe on Sunday. The win lifted Tse Nala into third place in the standings, just three points behind leaders LMPS.

It was also a significant weekend for Likhopo as the Red Army notched their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Butha-Buthe Warriors in Maputsoe on Saturday while LCS and LDF played to a goalless draw on the same day.
