To women’s football, and newly-elected Lesotho Women Football Association (LeWFA) president Puseletso Mokhosi has outlined plans to introduce a nationwide women’s cup competition.

“Our main target is to have a competition that will be contested by ladies’ teams across the country. We will also introduce grassroots programmes to help us identify young talent,” Mokhosi, who replaced Maleshoane Mokhathi as LeWFA president, said.

“The grassroots stage is very important because that is where we get the young talent especially at primary schools. So we need to give it attention going forward because we have lost a lot of talent already,” she said.

Mokhosi also underlined the importance of ensuring national women’s teams get more international exposure.

“We need to make sure our national team gets as many international matches as possible,” she said. There is a lot of work that needs to be done in terms of promoting the ladies game in the country,” Mokhosi said.

“There is a huge gap between men’s and women’s football in terms of trained administrators so that is another department where we will have to put more effort.”

New Women’s Football Association Committee:
President: Puseletso Mokhosi
Vice-President: Thabane Lekhooa
Secretary: Chris Bullock
Vice-Secretary: Joalane Tongoane
Treasurer: Mampiti Thamae
